Prior to Lipedema Surgery

Prior to performing therapeutic liposuction, your circulation should be assessed. Dr. Byrd must ensure that you have a healthy blood supply to ensure appropriate healing, as well as minimize any risk from the procedure from abnormal blood vessels that often are present in the diseased areas.

No patient has the same anatomy, and each patient should have a customized approach specific to their problem. Prior to any intervention, a plan, along with the rationale behind it, are discussed

More About Lipedema

Currently, the cause of lipedema is not known and is often misunderstood by other physicians. It is usually prescribed as obesity. Women that have lipedema know that is not true. Diet and exercise will not reduce lipedema fat or the pain associated with the disease. In lipedema patients, fat accumulates differently that other fat. Lipedema fatty tissue often resembles tumors and can be quite painful to the touch. The fat mainly deposits on the insides of the legs and knees. As one walks, the legs touch and rub together. This causes the legs to be pushes further and further out, causing additional damage to knees ands ankles. Lipedema symptoms can worsen over time.

At the Lipedema Surgery Center we understand that lipedema can be devastating. The disease makes it difficult to work, enjoy hobbies and sports, and is especially hard on relationships with family and friends. You will find Dr. Byrd and her experienced staff compassionate, understanding and offer the most advanced and effective treatment.
